Likeness Abound: How Poker and Outdoor Experiences Can Be Similar

Poker is one of the oldest card games to ever grace this earth. It has fans all over the world and has a rich history backing it. We were thinking about it a lot and realized that it has similarities with outdoor experiences.

Before this starts to confuse you, let us elaborate our point! Here are a few similarities that we’ve spotted through careful consideration:

You Never Get the Same Thing Twice

When you go to casino and go to the poker tables, you can play and literally never see the same people again. While you may be able to get the same hands—depending on how you play and your luck, of course—in the grand scheme of things, it’s hard for you to get the exact same result each time. No matter what amount of effort you put in, it can still either turn into a positive and lucrative experience or something terrible!

In the land of outdoor adventures, you can go to the exact same place but not experience the same thing. The time of year might be different, the activity might be more strenuous, and the general experience may not be quite what you remember. It could be better or worse than the first time around. So it’s a lot like poker in a way.

It’s a Heart Thumping Experience

Those that play poker (despite the inscrutable faces) will tell you that a round of poker can really get your blood pumping. You never really know if the hand you’ve got is good until the round is over and everyone shows their cards.

In outdoor experiences, the element of the unknown and the excitement of experiencing new things can really get your heart hammering in your chest!

To us, at Cala Blanca Sub, these sound like pretty good observations about their similarities. We’d like to know what your thoughts about this are, though. What similarities do you see between poker and outdoor experiences?
